With so much focus on floral and decor, lighting is often one of the last things engaged couples think about. We’ve decided this is one of the greatest tragedies of the wedding-planning world, because lighting has the power to completely define an event. The right lighting sets the perfect mood for your big day—whether you’re looking for something simple and romantic or celebratory and sparkly. So, today we wanted to share some of our favorite wedding lighting looks by the glow-gurus over at San Diego Socialights.
We love personalization in all the right places, and this marquee-letter display Socialights created for Joel & Ava’s downtown library wedding totally has us swooning. We love the idea of using letters to help light stairs or bring some personality to a lifeless wall (or ballroom partition). As for what you choose to display, get creative—names, dates, song lyrics, hashtags or even favorite quotes are all great options.
Incorporating paper lanterns into your wedding is such an easy way to give your venue (and night) a completely dreamy feel. They give an outdoor reception a subtle romantic glow without demanding too much attention (and they won’t break your budget). We absolutely love them for garden or tent weddings.
A tried-and-true lighting solution, market lights really are such a simple way to enhance the overall ambiance of a wedding. They really help to define a space and manage to feel celebratory and special without being over the top.
Wall of Lights
We can’t take our eyes off this holy-magical wall of hanging lights Socialights created for a super swanky wedding at a private estate. We love that this unforgettable scene is right out front of the venue, making an oh-so-luminous first impression on guests as they arrive.
In addition to more straight-forward lighting projects, Socialights builds custom lighting displays for couples (and their creativity is endless). Pictured here is an 8×8-foot heart they built for The Big Fake Wedding. We absolutely love the idea of creating a custom shape and using it to frame and light important wedding details (think: cake table, bride and groom’s chairs, or family photo display).
We hope we’ve convinced you to give lighting some serious consideration when planning your big day. Let us know if we missed any of your favorite ideas. Have a dazzling lighting display you think is a must-see? Submit it for a chance to be featured to our Real Weddings.
